Clyde Stubblefield, who was well known for his drumming with James Brown and also for providing one of hip-hops most sampled beats, has died at the age of 73 of kidney failure.

Stubblefield worked as a session musician and toured with Otis Redding before becoming the drummer for James Brown.  Some of the classic Brown cuts Stubblefield contributed to include: “Ain’t It Funky Now”, “I Got The Feelin”, “Mother Popcorn” and “Cold Sweat”. In a 2011 interview with The New York Times in reference to sampling of his beats, Stubblefield was bothered more by the lack of recognition than royalties.   “People use my drum patterns on a lot of these songs,” he said. “They never gave me credit, never paid me. It didn’t bug me or disturb me, but I think it’s disrespectful not to pay people for what they use.”     [su_youtube url=”https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8L4gITE3nUc” width=”400″] [su_youtube url=”https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_55a_Sje0lY” width=”400″] [su_youtube url=”https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8vDXrN-90p0″ width=”400″]
